Sarah's 5K Running to the Rescue Fundraising Team!
In 2014, I started volunteering at Meriden Humane Society (MHS). It all began with visiting another rescue establishment close to my home where I was told "Good luck getting in" due to the amount of volunteers they already had. I didnt like the vibe I received from that establishment, so I decided to drive 20 minute to the next town over and visit MHS. I was warmly welcomed, and as they were short on volunteers - I was handed a leash and asked to walk the dog same day! The rest is history & I have been volunteering at MHS in some capacity since then!!!
Most recently I joined the fundrasising team, and have been helping to coordinate events to raise funds for all the dogs & cats of Meriden Humane Society. It has been a rollercoaster ride, but so much fun & experience has been gained!
The Meriden Humane Society is a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter. We receive no financial assistance from the state and we are soley supported by public donations. The cost to run the shelter is overwhelming. To give you an idea, in 2018: it was $25,000 average monthly cost to operate the shelter; and $84,000 in veterinary expenses alone. As we take on more animals, increase our foster base, and help out in emergency situations those expenses exponentially increase!!
My wish is that you come walk/run this event to help raise awareness, but if you cannot, please help me share this fundraiser event! We thank you so much - every little bit of support helps!
